What is Love?

First off in order to understand love and believe in love you need to start with an empty mind. Right now your mind is over flowing with

what the media thinks is love

Love is Blind by Eve

Apparently the result of Rihanna's love for Chris

with what society thinks is love…

Flowers + Chocolate = Love

with what your family and friends think is love…

Financial Security

None of that matters. What matters is what do you think is love? When you hear the word love what do you think of? When you feel the word love what do you expect? While love is only a 4 letter word it is very complex. It only has one syllable but yet it’s so hard for people to express or recognize. If I were a scientist or a psychologist I’d study love. I’d study why love makes people lose their minds. Think about all your friends for a second, you probably have a handful of friends who have been crazy in love and in that process lost themselves. BUT…is that love? I think love is used to loosely in our society. We call everything love! We even call Domestic Violence love. We ask, “Well, why does she stay with him? Oh because she’s in love.” Really…is that love? Or is it that she’s never experienced love and thus is looking for love in all the wrong places. I refuse to believe that is love. When I think of love I think of respect, compassion, laughter, compromise, trust, hope, perseverance, honesty, loyalty, companionship, patience, and of course amazing sex!

What’s love to you?

  1. First and formost I want to say that I am extremely proud of you ! And I love the part about being single because God knows I been there. Reading your post on what love is really made me think about the relationships I have been in and have mad me question each one.. Keep on with the good work…

  2. Wow, Nat! I am so proud of you for starting your own blog. Yes, love is an enigma. So many people fall in and out of love as often as they change underclothes. Others say ridiculous things such as, “I love him/her, but I am not IN love with him/her!” Actually, what most people call love is reallya desire driven by lust and ego.

I believe you defined the meaning of TRUE love. St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 explains love as follows: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Imagine if everyone loved as St. Paul describes — there would be no wars or injustices in the world. Loves would never dare say or do anything hurtful to one another.

God has all the answers and if we lived our lives as He wills, I believe we would suffer less and love more. God is love and if we allow God’s love to penetrate our hearts and being, then we would be able to love fore real.
